Powys, Wales – Firefighters from Llanwrtyd Wells came to the rescue of a stranded dog after it became stuck on a steep embankment in the Crychan Forest near Cynghordy earlier this week.
The dog, named Luca, an English setter, had been missing, leaving his owner deeply worried. After a call for help, crews from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the scene on Tuesday, September 23.
Navigating through dense woodland and rough terrain, the firefighters eventually located Luca trapped on the embankment. To ensure his safety, the crew used a general-purpose line to secure the area and guide the dog to safety.
Once lifted from the tricky spot, Luca was carefully led back through the forest by the rescue team. The operation ended with a joyful reunion between the dog and his relieved owner. According to the fire service, the mission was completed successfully, and the crew left the scene at 1.38 pm.
A spokesperson for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service praised the teamwork involved, noting that forest rescues can be especially challenging due to the conditions. “The safety of both animals and people is always our priority, and we are glad Luca is back with his owner safe and well,” the statement read.
The Crychan Forest, known for its vast trails and dense cover, is popular with walkers and dog owners. However, the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly pets can find themselves in dangerous situations in natural landscapes.
Luca’s rescue highlights the continued commitment of local crews who often go beyond fighting fires to assist in emergencies involving animals and the community.
For Luca’s owner, relief and gratitude were clear as the beloved pet returned unharmed. The successful operation brought another positive outcome for the Powys firefighters, who regularly balance community protection with animal welfare.
